How do we really spend our time at work? Interesting question hey, and one which our partners over at Sage have turned their attention to in a recent blog, also producing the rather nice infographic underneath this story which highlights some of the answers they uncovered.
Obviously, at dcs we’re 100% focused on the task in hand – providing and supporting the market’s leading ERP software solutions – and are therefore immune from the distractions identified (cough). However, as you can see, it’s staggering the amount of time that can be wasted during an average day at work and how this then stacks up over a week, a month or an entire year.
With that said, we think it’s probably pretty harsh to describe all this time as “wasted”. Although we’re in the business of technology one thing we do recognise is that life isn’t strictly binary and humans are definitely not machines. Some of the social interactions identified, whether face to face or digital, are (at least to some extent) actually essential to a smooth running and productive workplace as well as individual employees general wellbeing.
Therefore, while it’s certainly a good thing to eliminate unwanted or unproductive distractions, we also think it’s important to consider how to maximise the impact of the time employees do spend focused on their work by ensuring that optimum levels of efficiency are achieved.
Thankfully, this is where technology offers solutions to the problem that in some part it has helped to create. The modern business solutions we offer and support our clients to get the most from, like Sage 200, are designed with this sole aim in mind. So, while we won’t dispute that every second counts in life, why not talk to us about how we can help make sure the ones you and your employees dedicate to work are truly time well spent.
